03The honest part
When SimplePractice is the better choice.
No product is right for everyone, and a comparison page that pretends otherwise is not worth reading.
01
You want a product with a decade of iteration behind it and a very large community of clinicians who can answer your questions on a Sunday. Congruent is new, and new means fewer people have already hit the bug you are about to hit.
02
You need a deep bench of integrations and third-party tools built specifically around one platform.
03
You practice outside mental health. SimplePractice serves speech therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, and other wellness disciplines; Congruent is built only for outpatient mental health and does not pretend otherwise.
04Switching questions
What people ask before they move.
Can I move my SimplePractice data to Congruent?
Yes, and we do the work. Client demographics, charts, past notes, treatment plans, and upcoming appointments come across, and we run the migration while your existing account is still open so you can compare records before cancelling anything. There is no charge for migration.
Is Congruent cheaper than SimplePractice at every size?
At list prices as of 19 September 2026: for a single clinician the comparison is $20 against $49 or more ($29 on our Practice plan if you bill insurance), and the gap widens once the AI note add-on is included on their side. SimplePractice prices groups on its Plus plan, at $99 for the first practitioner and $74 for each additional one. A five-clinician practice comparing our Practice plan against their Plus plan with Note Taker for every clinician is comparing $145 with $570 a month, before per-claim fees, which are about even: $0.40 a claim here and, from 1 October 2026, $0.39 there. For practices of six to fifteen clinicians, their rate per additional practitioner is $72, and at sixteen or more it is $69. Practices of six or more can also ask them for custom pricing. SimplePractice's current sign-up offer halves its plan and add-on prices for the first three months, so the gap is smaller during that time.
See our full pricing →How is Congruent's note check different from SimplePractice's?
Congruent reads every note, from every clinician, against the diagnosis and the active treatment plan before you sign, and tells you what a payer reviewer is likely to flag — an intervention with no goal reference, a session length that does not support the CPT code, a plan review that is overdue. It is included in every plan, and that check is the reason the company exists. SimplePractice's closest feature, Note Checker, is for pre-licensed clinicians on its Care Aide add-on. It gives feedback against a general rubric of documentation standards, including medical necessity and progress toward treatment goals, before a supervisor reviews the note.
How the Golden Thread Check works →Do you charge extra for AI notes like they do?
No. Unlimited AI-drafted progress notes and treatment plans are in the $20 base price. We think charging a second subscription for the feature that gives clinicians their evenings back creates the wrong incentive for the vendor.
